Should the United States continue to use capital punishment? I believe if a person commits murder then he, or she should get the death penalty. For example if someone plans deliberately to go out and take another person’s life, capital punishment should be enforced. There is no amount of money that can replace the loss of a loved one. The grief and pain a loved one’s family feels can be unbearable. I think the person who committed murder should have to endure that same pain and grief. I believe in “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.”
I do think there needs to be some changes in the judicial system. Prisoners can sit on death row for years, living off of the taxpayer’s money, getting free room and board. Prisoners also get to watch TV, have access to reading materials, and three meals a day. With all of these luxuries, it is almost like inmates are being rewarded for their crimes. This makes no sense to me; why should criminals be rewarded for their horrific behavior? They do not deserve these luxuries. I think that there should be a deadline for an appeal; a timeframe given for a person to prove his, or her case and, if found innocent, be acquitted. This would prevent so many prisoners from just sitting for years in a cell, getting a free ride off of the taxpayers.
There will always be arguments over whether to keep the death penalty or not. There are
some people who think it is cruel and unusual punishment. There are others who think it is a just
and fitting punishment for horrific crimes. There are several things to consider when making the
decision on whether it is right or wrong. One is the fact that keeping the death penalty in place
