For example to find the SWL of ½ inch polypropylene rope, do the following calculations: 1. Translate ½ inch diameter to eighths of an inch, which is 4/8 2. Square the numerator(4) =16 3. Multiply 16 by the rule of thumb factor for Polypropylene rope (40) 4. SWL is, therefore, 40x16= 640lbs
