POTENTIAL THESIS STATEMENT: The mass population of homelessness can be significantly reduced by providing effective solutions regarding affordable housing, employment security, and reliable healthcare for mental illness and substance abuse.

Patricia Cliff is an author of a book entitled The Art of Selling Real estate. She interviews a women by the name of Roseanne Haggerty, who is a developmental housing community leader, who specialize in renovating houses specifically for the homeless. Roseanne talks about the ineffectiveness of day to day shelters and the importance of housing stability. I think her suggestion will help support my claim of affordable long term housing as one solution to the housing crisis. Haggerty shares some of the same views as I and works and focuses on being a part of the solution not the problem.

Patricia Morgan is the executive director for Partners for the Homeless in Memphis, TN. She is also an author and homeless expert who served as a program analyst for the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness. I believe she is a credible interviewee for my final paper. She also published several articles regarding homelessness and mental illness. I asked her questions about permanent supportive housing, creating effective employment programs, and rehabilitating healthcare for the mental illness and substance abusers. She noted that our focus should be on ensuring that homeless people are employable and capable of earning a living wage, not a minimum wage.
