There are many advantages and disadvantages of wearing a uniform to represent the school whilst in year 7 to 12, high school. Benefits of wearing a uniform are, you do not have to decide what to wear everyday and others will not be able to judge you on what you wear. On the other hand, by making students wear a uniform, we are taking away their right to be an individual and school uniform can sometimes be too expensive.
An advantage of wearing a uniform is you do not have to worry about deciding what to wear everyday. Before a day at school, there are many things a high school student has to worry about. Making recess and lunch, eating breakfast and organising school books without being late for school are only a few stresses a student goes through in the early hours of the day. Without a school uniform, students are topping the list with the need to look for clothes everyday. This may seem like a very easy task, but imagine how much time and effort is put in to pick a decent outfit for school everyday. Thus, we can see that in order for high school students to save time and represent their school at the same time, a school uniform in necessary.
On the other hand, wearing the same uniform as everyone else in your school, is taking away your right to be an individual. Every pupil is different and has the right to dress the way he or she wishes. By making students wear a uniform, we are making them feel plain and not unique. This could affect their sense of self in a very big way. Eventually, students will begin to feel invisible due to looking the same as everybody else in the school. School uniforms are therefore not a need in high school.
However, if every student wore the same thing every school day, no one will get judged on what they wear or how they dress. Whilst in high school, every student should be treated equally.
