Advantages and Disadvantages of working retail
There are many opinions about retail people have composed over the years and as time progresses, people’s opinion about retail often shifts to the more negative side of things and not realizing how great it actually is to work retail. Most people would say retail is very repetitive, boring, and it’s a thankless job. I mean I know you’re on your feet all day and the pay isn’t great as what it should be and nonetheless, working retail is not a recession proof job. I mean due to these hard times in our economy, stores are closing down, going out of business, and downsizing. But working retail isn’t always a bad thing. In my opinion, I think the biggest advantage of working retail is the employee discount. Along with the employee discount comes the benefit of providing the client with satisfaction with the product you represent and if you’re a people person, than this is the job for you.
First and foremost, if you’ve worked retail, than you know what it feels like to be on your feet all day and having to do pretty much the same thing every single day. It sucks. I have experience working retail for the past 3 years at a retail store called Hollister Co., which is a clothing store for both male and female clientele, and let me tell you, my legs have never gotten this much exercise until I started working there. You’re on your feet all day going back and forth, performing different tasks and duties like helping customers find the certain product they needed or a certain size, and the only time you really get to sit down is when you’re on your break, which isn’t even very long. But at the end of my shift I always looked forward to the employee discount.
