1. Identify the ethical and legal issues of which Albert needs to be aware.
The first ethical issue that Albert needs to be aware of is trying to get information out of the “players” after they have had a few drinks in them. They both did it which caused some the profits to rise in their clients’ portfolios later on in the year. Another ethical issue was that Albert used his uncle to obtain private information from other law offices that had a lot of personal information listed about other companies, mainly targeting the ones that were going downhill financially. A third ethical issue was Mary receiving tips from her father whom worked for a successful business. Albert and Mary took advantage of other companies selfishly. Mary should have either opened the emails anyways or just sent them to spam instead of forwarding an email that she never even opened and didn’t know what was in it.
2. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each decision that Albert could make and has made.
The advantages Albert and Mary had in using information from others was that it helped their client list grow and they gained profits in their portfolios. The disadvantage of their decisions was that it was illegal to do so. They were using other people to their advantage and earning their money the wrong way. When their income was cut in half, Albert tried to make up for the loss of money by trading in some high-risk markets which just made things worse. For now on, Albert should not use insider information whatsoever. He shouldn’t steal information from other people, especially people that he doesn’t even technically work with in the same company. It really was a bad company to work for.
