Gun Control
One of the most talked about issues not only in the political scene, but the economic and social is whether or not the current gun control laws should be replaced or stay as is. In recent years a lot of tragic gun related accidents have happened that have made President Obama and other government officials question the laws we have in place today. Gun Control has always been one of the most controversial issues and put a brick wall between the Republican and Democratic parties.
In 2012 the Right-To-Carry laws set responsible and reasonable rules that have been proven to reduce gun related violence and follow the guidelines of the Second Amendment, The right to bear arms. The RTC is a set of laws recognized by both the Federal government and sate governments. The law states that U.S citizens have the right to a firearm for self defense following certain rules and regulations. The famous court case, Beard V. U.S in 1895 ruled that the common person "may repeal force with force". (RTC2012) The RTC reinforces the Gun Control Act of 1868 and the Firearm Owners Protection Acts in 1986 which is when congress said that they had no intentions on restricting law abiding citizens from the use of a firearm for "appropriate" personal protection or lawful activities, for example hunting and target shooting. (RTC2012) Today the U.S has 41 sates that are Right to Carry states. Within the RTC laws are the Shall issue laws. 38 out of our 41 Right To Carry states require a permit for the ownership of a firearm, however to get one citizens must meet uniform standards set by the state legislature.
Federal and state laws in place today are keeping restrictions on guns to promote safe and responsible ownership. Depending on where someone lives, some states have more restrictions than others.
