American Nightmare

In life some parents make certain decisions based on their economic status, and that can reflect the outcome of the child or children. Based on how some people see their selves as of looking at what they should of did for their child to have a better life so they wouldn’t have to take certain measures , or why they didn’t do what was expected because the year and time or they just couldn’t make ends meet. But when it comes down to it at the end of the day the parent did what was best for them and their family at the point and time. Just like in these two stories I read, My Son, My Executioner and I Stand Here Ironing. My Son, My executioner and I Stand Here Ironing are very similar and different but both tell about what it is like to struggle with no money. In my son, my executioner the narrator is the father and how he is looking at his son through the struggle of not being able to feed him and it is killing him at the same time for example he says “Sweet death, small son, our instrument Of immortality, Your cries and hungers document Our bodily decay” meaning his life is endless in his father’s eyes and when he cries he know that he is hungry but has nothing to give him. In I Stand Here Ironing, a mother is struggling to take care of her daughter Emily; she loves Emily and tells her she is as beautiful as a baby. But there in the times of the great depression and times are real hard barely enough jobs and the mother is a single parent. The Mother had to leave Emily at eight months of age with this lady who lived downstairs from them because she had to look for work. Unlike My Son , My Executioner it didn’t seem like the father was looking for work to me , it just seemed like he had no hope for himself but for his son he did “We twenty-five and twenty-two, who seemed to live forever, Observe enduring life in you” . As Emily got older she got distant because her mom had another baby named Susan, and that made Emily feel like she was nothing because the mother...
