An American Citizen, Losing faith in the System
As an American citizen, it pains me to say that I am losing faith in most areas of our
government. The public school system is trying to take God out of our schools. The judicial
system, in many cases, allows killers and rapists a shorter sentence than the non-violent
criminals. Most of all, I am losing faith in the majority of government officials that we elect
into office. Our children and their descendants will be affected by these actions the most.
I have become more aware of the changes in the public school system. As my children
begin to reach junior high school, they are asking about things they hear and see in school.
For instance, why do we not pray before we eat, like we do at home? Why do we meet at the
flag pole to pray, when we could do that inside the school? What scares me is how
impressionable they are at their age and the things they hear and see in a secular school system.
The judicial system is another problem I have with our government. There are killers and
rapists that spend less time in jail than embezzlers and thieves. The main flaw with the judicial
system is that the prosecutors and defense attorneys only care about winning, not truth-seeking.
To those people truth-seeking is the job of the judge and jury.
It is getting harder every day to turn the television on and not see a government official in
some kind of scandal. It maybe a sexual scandal, an embezzlement scandal or even bribery by
an elected official for a political seat. It always seems that behind every good deed there are
several criminal deeds that replace them. Not all politicians are bad; there are still a few out
there that are ready to go to battle for their people. We need good men and women with good
morals that stand up for our future and our children’s’ future.
I cannot say that I have lost faith in the entire public school...
