An Evaluation of Nike's Business Code of Ethics
Every major corporation has a business code of ethics. Some company’s refer to it as the company’s code of conduct. The business code of ethics outlines the expectations of the company’s employees, customers, and the company as a whole. This short essay will take a look at Nike’s business code of ethics. The type of ethical system used by Nike, what does the code have to say about employees, managers, and the board of directors will be addressed also. What modifications if any need to be made to Nike’s code of ethics, the reaction from the employees based on these implications, and what effect will certain modifications to the code of ethics will be addressed in this essay as well. First this essay will give some general information about Nike and the mission statement of the corporation.

Nike is currently the world’s leading designer and distributer of athletic footwear, equipment, apparel and accessories in the sport and fitness industry. Nike has achieved this level of excellence by incorporating the goals and mission to remain creative in developing new and innovating products that benefits athletes that will help them obtain and reach their full potential. Nike has instilled the values that every idea is a good and exciting idea and wants every voice to be heard. Nike remains fair and holds their employees to keep the basic ethical practices of loyalty, honesty, fairness, and being trustworthy. Nike’s mission statement is “to bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world. If you have a body you are an athlete (Bowerman, 2007, p. 1).”
