Never in my life have I experienced an earthquake like this one. Never in my life have I been moved so much by the things happening around me. This is all because of the earthquake happened in Sichuan on May 12, 2008.The earthquake was so destructive that tens of thousands of people died or were badly wounded, many others, if not injured, were deeply hurt by the horror of the nightmare or the deep sorrow of losing their family and their friends.Maybe this hurt will take many years or even a lifetime to heal.
Although the earthquake did not happen in Shanghai, it did affect the wheather of the city.I still can’t forget that day,when I looked up to the sky and noticed that the sky was not blue and clear anymore, instead, it suddenly changed into dark grey and seems like something horrible is happening .
I couldn’t imagine if the quake happened here in Shanghai.That must be horrible! Though the quake brings away many lives, we can’t grief endlessly but shall stir ourselves and engage in the reconstruction. I started to question myself what have I done for those people in the erathquake-hit regions? The answer is nothing.
Once I decided to do something, I would never quit until I make it. So I went to Sichuan as a volunteer to teach English in local primary school during my summer vication. Since the school building was badly demaged during the earthquake, the students need to study in a temporary classroom built by the government. The vile environment for the people there made me reflect upon myself that they had an urgent need for help and care from outsiders like me.
So I joined a charity organization in my school called ‘the Nexus’ at once and soon became the special assistant of it.After that , I advocated that the club should hold some activities or competitions among all international schools in Shanghai, and the money we gained by selling tickets can be all donated to the the families that were affected by the Earthquake in Sichuan.I took charge of the...
