The particular enterprise that was chosen to conduct the case study is Santiago Castillo LTD. The major factors which contributed to decide on the particular enterprise are as a result of the nature of the business, the national and international relationship it has and also because of the ease on which the information could be gathered. The method that was used to conduct the case study and gathering of information is in the form primary data through interviews and also secondary data through research.
Santiago Castillo LTD is considered to be one of the leading merchandising industries in Belize. Santiago Castillo LTD is a family oriented business established in the year 1926 by Santiago Castillo Sr. In 1983, Don Chich as he was affectionately called, passed away, and his wife, Mrs. Addy Castillo took over. In 2001, Mrs. Addy, known to all employees as Mama, retired and passed the reins of the company to her children, Lorena, the President, Santiago Santino, the CEO, and Addy, the Director and Manager of the Save-U Supermarket. Over the past 8 decades Santiago Castillo has grown, and attained renowned American, European, and Caribbean agencies making it one of the largest food distributors in Belize. One of the fundamental characteristics which distinguish this particular enterprise from its competitors is the well established market and the innovative methods they attract their customers. Santiago Castillo LTD is not only a merchandising industry which is concentrated in the importation of certain goods but they also have a high reputation by reaching the milestone of developing their own product label line Tastee.
