Case Title Apple (in 2013): How to Sustain a Competitive Advantage

Apple has failed to show any new interesting product line since the passing of Steve Jobs. Any products that are truly unique (as released in 1997-2010) have not been announced. Design alone will not carry Apple either; weather it be a design for an existing product or a new product line the is more fashion than form. Their design of newer products (which has been referred to as the 'trash can' Imac) does not sit with designs of the past or the brand.
Identify Three Alternatives to address the strategic Issue:
Apple again lost Steve Jobs. Steve Cook has yet so show any sort of (entrepreneurial) spirit that Apple has relied on. Historically Apples has needed a strong leader to maintain market share or profitability.
Apple needs to add innovation to their current products to set them apart from the competition. For years the Iphone has taken the best product attributes of other devices and wrapping them into one device with the next product revision. Apple has been won and lost patent infringement cases due to issues with newer Iphone revisions.
Competitors like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google are diversifying their catalog and brand to reflect a new time. Apples inability to make the necessary changes threaten a lose in market segmentation as seen in the percentage of stock growth in Exhibit 10. All these companies do not have many dedicated brick and mortar locations selling their brands instead focusing on a more effective digital medium. Amazon have their own hardware products and are trying to retain earning on only subscription cash flows.
