The most important aspect of one’s life are the skills possessed which depends upon the successful interpersonal relationships built by effective communication skills learned and expressed to others. Patients’ perceptions of the quality of the healthcare they receive are highly dependent on the quality of interactions with people in the healthcare industry. Effective communication begins when people understand another person’s communication to them, as well as another understanding them. One of the main concepts of communication is listening and responding to another person’s thoughts, needs, desires and feelings. In healthcare, patients and staff members judge the medical professionals working in the same environments by their communication performances observed while working together.
Communication takes place daily, messages people send and receive verbally and nonverbally are forms of communication. An article titled Workplace Communication (2005) mentions;” One of the key foundations of any successful workplace is being able to communicate effectively”. This improves one’s skills of receiving and sharing information, defining and understanding goals, and avoiding negative effects of conflict and confusion. According to research and evidence “there is a strong positive relationship between healthcare member’s ability in communication skill that influences the patient’s capacity to follow through with medical recommendations, self-manage a chronic medical condition, and adopt preventive health behaviors. Studies show that the clinician’s ability to explain, listen and empathize can have a profound effect on biological and functional health outcomes as well as patient satisfaction and experience of care.
