Argumentation Essay (REVISED FOR PORTFOLIO)
The Student Struggle
Every day students struggle to find a healthy balance between school and their personal lives. Some find reprieve by participating in sports or venting to friends but an increasing number are starting to feel the effects of overwhelming stress caused by school. School is a vital part of maturing into adulthood that everyone experiences, however, as the years have progressed, multiple factors have made it overwhelming for a lot of students.
The first cause is the tremendous work load put on teenagers nowadays. With the majority of students having more to worry about than just school work, trying to balance the numerous commitments they may have can be difficult and overwhelming. Throughout a typical school day a student has about six major classes, if each of those classes gives an hour of homework each night that is six hours of work expected done by the student outside of school. Most students have about eight allotted hours between when they leave school to when they should to go to bed (even though most do not get the recommended amount of rest), that leaves at most a couple hours of free time to the student if they were to spend an hour on each class subject’s homework. This demonstrates a schools unrealistic expectation of students on a daily basis. Teachers need to understand that students not only deal with their class outside of school but also other factors as well, they could lessen their homework amount and leave certain days in class allotted for catching up on work.
With the amount of work given on a daily basis it is expected a lot of students do not take the initiative to do their work on time and end up procrastinating. Putting off work till the end of the quarter will only stress a student out more, but at the time they feel that it is “out of sight, out of mind”.
