Arizona Immigration Law: Illegal Immigrants Flooding Arizona
July 31, 2010
The population of illegal aliens in Arizona is growing more and more rapidly as each year passes. On April 23rd, 2010, Governor Jan Brewer signed the SB-1070 law which was put in place to identify, prosecute and deport any and all illegal immigrants. Not only is it about the illegal immigration, it is also about the drugs and violence that occur. Arizona has an estimated 460,000 illegal immigrants, and its harsh, remote desert serves as the corridor for the majority of illegal immigrants and drugs moving into the U.S. from Mexico. So far, the best help we are going to get from our Federal Government is 1,200 army and air Nation Guards. This means that, 1,200 people called “gap fillers” are supposed to help protect an almost 2,000 mile border. Yes it might be costly, but in the long run, the Government could save money because they are still paying thousands of troops and border patrol agents to guard the border. The fence could be a lot safer for both the illegal immigrants and the officers.
Arizona has waited for the Government to act for way to long on the illegal immigration issue. “We in Arizona have been more than patient waiting for Washington to act, but decades of Federal inaction and misguided policy has created and unacceptable situation”, said Gov. Jan Brewer. (Brewer, 2010). How long must we wait before some type of action is taken to keep illegal...
