CHECKPOINT COMPARISON OF THREE SCULPTURES
There are three different sculptures of David by different artist. Each of them show different styles. Michelangelo‘s, David was done in 1501-1504. It was done in marble and stood 14 feet by 3inches. Bernini,David was done in 1623. It was also done in marble, five feet, seven inches. Michelangelo’s styles belonged to the renaissance period, while Bernini belongs to the baroque period. Michelangelo’s statue of David has a different pose, David puts all of his weight on one leg, while the other is bent. This was done to show that the person was ready to move. This statue was also nude to show David’s heroism standing for all times. Putting clothes on the statue would just limit it to one time period. Bernini’s David isn’t completely nude with a few articles of clothing. Unlike Michelangelo’s David, Bernini’s David is not posed according to classical traditions. His stance was as if he was in the mist of battle. His facial expressions tell it all. Michelangelo’s perception of David was before the battle. It looks as though he is sizing up his opponent and deciding what to do next. One Statue uses his strength and the other his mind. Michelangelo’sDavid, looked as if it were perfect. He was very muscular with no blemishes and towered over the size of a regular man. Bernini’sDavidwas life size, so it was easier to relate too(Pearson Pod cast). Dontellos David was made out of bronze, but similar to Michelangelo’s David he was also nude. He is holding a sword in one hand and standing with Goliaths head between his legs. He wears a hat and has long hair. All of these statues are different and show different styles from different periods. They all show the hero David, who conquered Goliath....
