Artemis goes back in time eight full years, and has to come up with a plan to outsmart his toughest opponent yet, himself, age ten.
When Artemis fowl was only ten years old his family was in financial troubles and his father had disappeared doing a deal with the Russians. Artemis was saving up money for the expedition, but while doing so his mother kept spending it on wildlife trying to save endangered species. So one day when Artemis had finally saved up enough to fund his expedition to find his father, he is getting ready when he finds out there is no money left in the bank. He asks his mother how this happened and she tells him that she spent it to save a lemur in Africa. As Artemis is only ten he throws one of his temper tantrums and in a rage comes up with a plan to sell the lemur to a group of poachers called the extinctionists.
