Artemis Fowl: The Time Paradox
Summer Reading Project
The Time Paradox, One of the most confusing things to wrap the mind around. In Artemis Fowl: The Time Paradox; Artemis Fowl, the protagonist in the story, finds out that his mother has contracted a deadly disease that was only known to infect fairies, until now. The only known cure is an animal that is now extinct. Artemis must now go back in time to retrieve the cure for the disease; a lemur that he himself killed when he was only ten years old. Artemis goes back in time eight full years, and has to come up with a plan to outsmart his toughest opponent yet, himself, age ten.
When Artemis fowl was only ten years old his family was in financial troubles and his father had disappeared doing a deal with the Russians. Artemis was saving up money for the expedition, but while doing so his mother kept spending it on wildlife trying to save endangered species. So one day when Artemis had finally saved up enough to fund his expedition to find his father, he is getting ready when he finds out there is no money left in the bank. He asks his mother how this happened and she tells him that she spent it to save a lemur in Africa. As Artemis is only ten he throws one of his temper tantrums and in a rage comes up with a plan to sell the lemur to a group of poachers called the extinctionists. He sells the lemur to them for double the price that his mom paid to save it, and the lemur is never seen again.
Artemis Fowl, age 18. The older Artemis Fowl ends up arriving back in time by using a demon warlock called N°1. He teleports them to his manor eight years in the past, and they only have three days to find the lemur and bring it back. During their three days in the past, Artemis and his fairy friend Holly Short get captured, stowed in a metal box, chased by maniacal poachers, and learn one of the most astounding things of all. Nothing is what it seems in the Time Paradox....
