The word “abortion” always stirs mixed emotions. This word holds much power over emotion because of its association with “death.” Everyone has his or her own opinion of whether it is right or wrong. Religious beliefs usually play a big role in the belief of whether abortion is moral or immoral. It seems that it is in a human’s nature to be judgmental which appears to a contradiction in religion. In the bible (King James Version) it states that if you do not want to be judged then do not judge others (Matthew 7:1).
This rebuttal will analyze the reliability, credibility, and the validity of the data used in the article “Does the Drug “ella” Cause Abortions.” The sources of the data used in the article will also be assessed for credibility. Logical fallacies and rhetorical devises used to sway opinion will be identified.
Rhetorical Explanations
The article in question uses language that charges the emotion of the reader to sway the attitude on abortion and discredit the Obama administration for approving the drug “ella” as an emergency contraceptive. The word that stands out the most is “ObamaCare.” This word is used to replace two simple words, “health care.” The term contraceptive is replaced with the word abortifacient. In other words, “ObamaCare” is requiring insurance companies to pay for abortions. Obviously that was not enough to get the emotional juices flowing. The article goes on to say that the pill “Ella” causes death of a human embryo.
