Intelligence in humans is measured in different ways and has specific characteristics that are not easily carried out in artificial intelligence. There is no single accepted definition of intelligence however Coon and Mitterer state “intelligence refers to one’s general capacity to act purposefully, think rationally, and deal effectively with the environment”. They also conclude that “intelligence is operationally defined by the creation of intelligence tests”. There are multiple tests utilized to base what the level of intelligence is, with each having its own measure. Artificial intelligence (A.I.) is usually recognized as computers in today’s age however in the future the next level will have computers that learn exponentially.
There are eight types of intelligence and there can be any combination that works together for an overall intelligence rating. Musical intelligence relates to performing tasks related to music. Artificial intelligence easily mimics musical notes but to date has not become independent enough to write music that is pleasing to the human ear. A.I. lacks the human touch. Bodily kinesthetic intelligence uses the body to solve problems. This is another area that artificial intelligence cannot be completely human like at this time in history. Possibly when technology becomes advanced enough this area can become viable however this is in the future. There are robotics in use today but they are programmed with a specific job. Logical mathematical intelligence is scientific problem solving. This is a higher function in humans and animals to solve problems. Computers function using math and algorithms so this is an area that humans and computers are similar. The difference lies in learning from mistakes and “bending” the rules of science or compromise to allow a problem to be completed even if the result is not logical. When A.I. begins to have the ability to “learn” A. I. will excel greatly in this area. Linguistic intelligence is the use of...
