Brave New World by Audous Huxley is a novel in which he perceives what our society will be like years into the future. The book focuses on the people that live in a society that thrives through promiscuous sex, drug binging, and psychological conditioning. These are just some of the themes that have questioned the morals of the novel and if it should be read in educational environments. I feel that the book should not be banned because even Audous Huxley glorifies all the concepts that today in society we do not approve of he also puts in a major character to contradict it all. Throughout the whole novel he writes in such description of how the drug soma can get you out of uncomfortable situations and just make you happy. In today’s society we know that young adults have been more than ever have the resources to provide them with their very own present day soma; to get away from it all and feel that uplifting feeling. Huxley, though, writes about what this drug addiction can lead to and makes us question if we really would want a world that has no problems whatsoever.
In a perfect society, humans do not need to resort to drugs to keep society in balance. In Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, society is based on keeping everyone happy and if for some reason someone becomes unhappy then there is always soma, the "perfect" drug. Humans are conditioned from the very start to be happy while performing their specific tasks. "We also predestine and condition. We decant out babies as socialized human beings, as Alphas or Epsilons, as future sewage workers or future Directors of Hatcheries." (pg.13) Brave New World's society is built on keeping everyone happy and keeping everyone working in balance with civilization. However, without soma, Brave New World's society wouldn't function properly. The soma helps to keep the society moving, always working to keep production moving.
