In the philosophy forum we discussed briefly about relationship between ethics and religion; however, our main focus was Atheism. Atheism is a theory or a belief that God does not exist. The discussion was opened up by a student who introduced her criteria for her views on Atheism. After looking over her criteria and listening to the discussion I was whether confused. I was confused because her points were similar to way I feel at times and I’m a theist. A theist believes that there is a God that exists. The point that stirred up a lot of confusion was Atheist believes that the idea of eternal rewards and punishments is morally repugnant because the motive to avoid going to Hell cannot be basis for morality for it disrupts proper moral motivation, i.e. some people only being morally good to ‘save their hide’. First thing that I noticed was not all people are just being good to stop form going to Hell. Actually just because you are doing good doesn’t mean that you are promised a spot in heaven. Another thing, rather it is repugnant or not atheist or a theist, we are entitled to our own moral reasons for doing the thing that we do. As humans we are constantly putting God at the root of problems, when it’s evident that he is not responsible for our action, we are. kjhglkhjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj-
