Attack Prevention Article Evaluation
The times that one could setup a firewall and the most updated anti-virus software are long gone. The threats to security are coming at such a rate that even the best software is subject to fail at some point. Security threats come in so many variations that it is only hopeful never to fall victim to a breach of some kind. Companies spend large amounts of revenue to prevent their investment from becoming the next catastrophic disaster. Some of these companies are still unfortunate victims and have to steer through tremendous financial hardship. Therefore, the cost to prevent the almost inevitable from happening can be very expensive, but necessary. The task of preventing it can be almost impossible given the treacherous scandals that culprits engage in to breach the security threshold.
InformationWeek is a widespread well-known online source of information that also has a digital magazine available for its patrons. One article in particular was very interesting. It focused on the different ways to prevent insider attacks. It is very clear that insider attacks can be the most undetectable attack to defend against because of the trust already gained from being an employee. However, no one should ever be given carte blanche to potential financial ruin of the company. The article then listed the different ways that companies could identify and prevent insider attacks. Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Secret Service provided information that helped the article validate the different way to prevent the breaches. The ten ways that the article covered were as follow:
