Australia
Australia is a large country of the coast of Indonesia. Its capital is Canberra. The smaller stars on the Australian flag represent the constellation called the Southern Cross, visible in Australia and other parts of the Southern Hemisphere, so it relates to Australia's geographic position. The large star represents the federation of all the Australian states and territories. There are seven points on the large star one for each state and also one for the territories Northern Territory and Australian Capital Territory. It is referred to as the Star of Federation or the Commonwealth Star. The Union Jack symbolizes Australia's relationship with Britain as a member of the Commonwealth and also as the parent nation.
the population of Australia is estimated to be 22,528,835 as of 11 January 2011. Australia is the 50th most populated country in the world. Its population is concentrated mainly in urban areas. Australia’s population has grown from an estimated population of about 350,000 at the time of British settlement in 1788 due to numerous waves of immigration during the time since. Australia has scarcely more than two persons per square kilometer.
Aborigines
The indigenous people of Australia are the Aborigines. Until 1788, the only inhabitants of Australia were the Aborigines. They had lived there for over 40,000 years and it is thought that there was as many as 300,000 of them there at the time. Today there are only 150,000 Aborigines representing 1% of the population of Australia.
They moved to Australia from South East Asia. They crossed the sea in rafts. They were nomads who wandered from place to place in search of food.
Rabbit proof fence
The State Barrier Fence of Western Australia, formerly known as the No. 1 Rabbit-proof Fence, the State Vermin Fence and the Emu Fence, is a pest-exclusion fence built between 1901 and 1907 to keep rabbits and other agricultural pests, from the east, out of Western Australian pastoral areas.
