Babe in Boyland

Babe in Boyland

The book I read was called “ Babe in Boyland” by no other than Jody Gehrman. The story takes place mostly at Underwood Academy, a school for boys. The main character is Natalie Rowan, she is a junior in high school. She writes for the school’s paper, but in a specific column as a love guru. People ask her questions and she responds back, not as Natalie but as Dr. Aphrodite. She is also known as Nat at Underwood Academy. She is courageous and smart because when going in her disguise she handles it pretty good for a girl. Then there is Emilio, he is Hispanic and attends Underwood Academy. He is Natalie’s, also known as Nat while attending the academy, roommate. He is very good looking and is taken interest by Natalie. Next, there are Natalie’s two best friends Darcy and Chloe. They are totally opposite when it comes to personality which makes their friendship odd yet fun. Darcy is in a tough relationship, she has pink hair and is in the rocker genre. On the other hand Chloe is fancy and really girly. Along when being a total mean girl at times, which is how she gets her guys.

Natalie Rowan writes for her school newspaper, in a specific column where girls ask relationship based questions. Natalie responds, but as Dr. Aphrodite and no one knows. But on one column guys respond back with hateful comment saying she tells the girls what they want to hear. They begin questioning her knowledge on relationships. Her editors don’t help but bring up a writing competition called “Story of the Year” where the objective is to investigate a social issue in their generation. The winner receives $1, 000. Natalie tells them she is interested but they laugh and tell her to go back to her love stories. She tries to come up with an idea and does, her topic is “A Girl’s Guide to Guy’s: Their Top Secrets Revealed.” She comes up with seven questions her and her friends, Darcy and Chloe, are dying to know: When you say you’re going to call a girl and you don’t, what happened? Why are...
