The purpose of the Back to Basics project is to reaffirm the
common dynamic methods, CDM’s, for the Target Distribution Center outbound department. These methods have allowed
Target to have one of the most efficient running distribution processes in the corporate world. The outbound department at Target D.C. 588 has its strengths and opportunities which have allowed it to achieve a level of excellence that has been brought about through teammates who have the energy, enthusiasm, and the talent to execute the goals to meet the needs of our customers. In the effort to continually provide our customers with a superior Target Brand experience it is essential that any opportunities that arise where efficiency can be addressed then these opportunities should be made aware. Currently the critical opportunity which faces outbound is the inconsistency of load quality and lane management. This project will address these topics and attempt to implement a course of action to allow the CDM’s to be continually consistent for the present and the future of the outbound department and T588.

Overall load quality for the four outbound keys has been an opportunity for outbound for quite some time and with this project it is the goal that each key reinstitute cornerstone loading CDM’s and develop a follow up program that will continually oversee teammates load quality and lane management from their time as a new hire and throughout their period as an outbound teammate. It is critical that new teammates receive the proper training and an appropriate amount of time to be instructed by trainers. The correlation between the amount of training time a teammate receives is directly proportional to their productivity.
