Extra Credits for Existentialism Prof. Thompson Before Teaching Ethics: Stop Kidding Yourself! This paragraph pointed out couple enlightening insights as to can ethics be “taught”? However, I did not totally agree with every point that the author made. While his remark on the eager woman asking him to supervise an independent of an ethical curriculum for middle-school and high-school students is” This bright young woman earnestly believed that if people in low-income, high-crime areas would just take a couple of ethics courses, they would be less inclined to mug people and more inclined to act like the college students she knew”, I did approve of this woman’s intention. By “telling” them the righteousness, at least the society has given them a chance to do right things. No one should devalue the importance of teaching a child acceptable behavior since they are like a white sheet of paper which would be colored by whichever they receive from the world. This is why it’s so important to teach children moral values before they reach adulthood for people usually cling to what they think...
