Therefore, since we surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and sin that so easily entangles, and lets us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, let us fix our eyes on Jesus the author the and perfected of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of god.

Paul is telling the people he is talking to, to basically let everything that hinders us to let it that go and run the race (life) that is set before us. And to let everyone know what Jesus has done for us so that we may live on this earth today, by hanging on the cross and being in shame.
My bible says in competition the roar of the crowd can give you the final push to finish strong and the passage is talking or even having to do with spiritual heroes of the past cheering there people on in this race we call life.
The way I would use these passages in my life today is by running the race God has set before me, and by doing the things Jesus would do because all he has done for me and that’s how he would want his followers/children would want.
