According to Gilbert, a major factor influencing personality in individuals is simply one’s birth order. Although I have siblings on my father’s side, I consider myself to be an only child. The reasons I consider myself an only child is simply because I’m my mother’s only child as well as for the simple fact that I barely grew up in the same house with my two older siblings. It was my grandparents on my mother side, who basically raised me. As a result of this I like to think that as an only child, I exhibit some of the same characteristics as a first born and a last born. oHo
However, the few times that I was around my siblings, I could see at a young age with all of us together in a full house multiple personalities but also similarities which cause me to “bump heads” with the oldest.” The birth order in which my siblings fall under can be best described into three unique categories, such as the Perfectionist, the Tornado, and the Princess.
The Perfectionist in the family is my oldest sister, Samiska. This was my dad’s favorite. Before me and my other sibling, she was the center of the attention since the moment of conception. Anyone who happens to visit my father’s house and take a look of the family photo album will see that the photo album is filled with this kid’s every step to every runny nose she ever had. Being this was my father’s first child; I think he put most of his energy into making sure she was the perfect angel. As a result, she became the type of child that was sharp and responsible with a greater pressure to succeed and do things properly.
As with most first born children, Samiska was very bossy and as mentioned before things had to be done her way all the time because that was the right way according to her. I remember one of my short term stays with my siblings, my younger sibling and I were sharing Samiska’s coloring book. However, that quickly ended when she got frustrated that we were not choosing the appropriate colors to color...
