Alumnia is worth an astounding four billion dollars. The company manufactures automotive components, alumina refining, bauxite mining and aluminum smelting. They are an American based company that operates in eight different countries. 70% of the profit comes from America. Alumina falls beneath the jurisdiction of region 6 of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).They have four major players in the company who aim to keep Alumnia a major player in the market.
Roger Lloyd is the chairman and is the face of the company. Unfortunately he is iron willed and non compromising unless you are named Chris Blake. Chris is second in command and seems to be the only person who can convince Mr. Lloyd to second guess himself. Diane Richards is the head of PR and has great skill with dealing with and cleaning up relationships with investors. The last player Arthur Todd provides the legal counsel and has experience in litigation.
Alumina needs to have a plan that will explain how regulatory risks such as tort liability can be identified and managed through preventive, detective, and corrective measures. The plan must clearly identify common torts and other regulatory risks as found in the simulation and the textbook. The plan must also describe specific measures to manage each individual risk.
What is tort liability? Personal injuries or property damage that occurs on company premises are considered, “Tort Liabilities.” This excludes injuries to company employees while in the course and scope of employment, which would be considered a Workers’ Compensation claim Tort Liability Claims must be filed with the California State Board of Control.
Within Alumnia they have a tort liability issue. Five years ago, Alumina was in violation of environmental discharge norms after a regular EPA compliance evaluation inspection. A clean-up was ordered and Alumina complied without delay. Since then the...
