Writing Perk: Week of Sunday, February 18, 2007

This week's stuff:

1. Your car is stuck in the driveway, you have to get downtown for a
do or die job interview. You jump on the bus. It changes your life.
How?

2. Your character comes to be in possession of a plant ala Audrey
from Little Shop of Horrors (talking man eating plant) What does he
or she do with it?

3. Your character believed that his or her spouse had been dead for
five years. It turns out they weren't. Where were they? Why did they
leave? What happens next? (Loosely borrowed from a Lifetime movie I
watched this afternoon)

This week's stuff:

1. Write a rough draft using these nouns: house, truck, tools,
flower, water. Use these verbs: talk, walk, run, dig, carry.

Now on your second draft replace all of the "weak" nouns and verbs
with stronger ones and see how it changes your piece.

2. (I may have already given you this one, I am drawing a blank) Grab
a copy of the newspaper and look at the horoscopes. Have your
character "live" what the horoscope says.

3. Its Valentines Day next week. What's so great about it? What
could be/should be changed. Do you celebrate?

This week's stuff:

1. Spring arrives and in the middle of the yard, where the snow piles
used to be is a ...

2. It's Groundhog Day; the world awaits the groundhog's arrival. The
countdown begins and no groundhog! Where is he? What happens if he
isn't around to prognosticate?

3. This week I vow to do (fill in the blank) for myself and my
writing. Write it down and post it on your alarm clock so you see it
every morning. Keep your promise to yourself.

Have fun and keep that pen moving!
