Maycomb's Parenting Styles in TKMB
A woman by the name of Louise Hart once said, ''The golden rule of parenting is: Do unto your children as you wish your parents had done unto you''. In To Kill A Mockingbird, there are many lessons to learn; and the contrast between different types of parenting is seen throughout the novel. These different parents have a huge influence on their kids. A person's outlook on society will negatively or positively affect their view on what their child should grow up to be. Most will agree that Bob Ewell, one of the characters in the book, puts a negative influence on his kids Burris and Mayella Ewell. One example of this would be that Burris only attends the first day of school. Burris comes to class really dirty and smelly, starts to shout at the teacher, he then curses at the teacher and leaves. Bad manners, proper hygiene and respect are some things Bob Ewell clearly didn't teach his kids. Bob acts the same way in public and at home, and Harper Lee makes that clear for the readers. In conclusion, the way a person is brought up and the different life experiences one might have in their lifetime, will greatly impact their kids.
