Books have always had more of an impact on people then films have ever had. The book Flowers for Algernon is written by Daniel Keys and is an excellent piece of work. A movie quite similar to the book is Awakenings, directed by Penny Marshall. They are both original and are about a human experiment. There have been many movies that were based on books but they have never yet reached the potential of a book. There are many reasons why, such as the creativity given in books makes reading more fun. The views of the director could be different from the perspective of the author causing it to change drastically. Books also give more time; there is no limit of how long or short the book is aloud to be.

The creativity given in a book is wonderful. You can let your mind imagine all the great descriptions given. When reading Flowers for Algernon the author gives a brief description of Harriet, a girl that Charlie has a crush and all the boys in the school yard always stop playing when Harriet passes by. The curls on her head bounce up and down when she talks with a smile on her face so you are able to see the dimples on her cheeks which makes all the boys think she is the prettiest girl alive. Since the author did not give much detail, you are given the chance to let your mind take control and imagine. You can imagine color of her hair, the lustrous hair bouncing in every step she takes and since the author said nothing about her clothes, you are left to decide what she will wearing too. It could be a pink frock with white lace around the edges or she could even be wearing a school uniform, the decision is left to you. On the other hand, while watching a movie you do not get the chance to picture anything because it is on the screen. Everything has already been chosen in the view of the director.
