Animal Farm Essay
Napoleon showed multiple characteristics pertaining to that of a “Dictator” and how they treat their citizens and abuse their power for their own benefit including political power, wealth, and the well-being for themselves. Kim Jong-Il of North Korea portrayed many of the same characteristics in his reign of power as well. The character Napoleon in George Orwell’s “Animal Farm” and Kim Jong-Il, the former leader of North Korea both share many of the aspects of what a “Dictator” is described as.
After the banishing of Snowball, Animal Farm began to drastically change into a terrible place. Before it was a wonderful place where all of the animals on the farm were equal in every way. The citizens at Animal farm looked to Snowball and Napoleon for guidance as both of them showed great leadership abilities. Once Snowball left, there was no more of that. Napoleon took over the farm after his guard dogs chased Snowball off of it. This is the starting point of when Napoleon began his reign as a dictator. He used his status as a pig to take advantage of the rules that the animal farm used for equality. Napoleon and the other pigs under him started to trade with humans for the benefit of themselves like food and other supplies necessary to live a life in luxury. Napoleon starts to use human items to make himself more wealthy and powerful than all of the other animals. The pigs, with the leadership of Napoleon, starting sleeping in the beds, wearing human clothes, and drinking alcohol, which was all against their equal rights that they agreed to on the animal farm. One of the large problems was that the other animals weren’t allowed to partake in these activities, except for the pigs that followed Napoleon.

Napoleon continued to abuse his power and slightly change the commandments that all of the animals still strictly followed. He would not tell the animals about these changes, just for the benefit of himself. One example of this is when he...
