How does one describe the image of a killer, a person or even a society? The answer is we cannot nor can we blame shocking shootings on a single person, event, artist, opinion or way of life . In the documentary movie Bowling for Columbine, directed by Michael Moore who also is known for his work on the movie supersize me, and his ability to capture an audience and gain new perspectives. Bowling for Columbine expands beliefs and worries of violence and terror. Michael Moore presents the fear of the United States as being a violent country that is full of citizens who idolise inept stars whose ways of portraying their art or views supposedly define a civilian’s choices. While watching the film, it is evident that Moore presents many shared opinions and topics that prove the aggression and all too common age of terror within our society .
This expository and Interactive documentary uses many techniques such as Michael Moore’s use of posing provocative questions with a sense of relatable humour which captures the attention of audiences both by making them think and the correlation between the story line and the issues and themes which are prominent in today’s society especially throughout America . An example of this was the clear contrast between the stories of the struggle and turmoil in Flint, Michigan and the “Canadian lifestyle”. The use of this juxtaposition and Michael Moore’s prominent place within the documentary Bowling for Columbine makes the viewer re-assess their position and views on the continuous controversy that surrounds the use of guns within the United States.
Throughout the documentary Moore never comes forward and says that he opposes the use of guns, but many of his techniques and his attitude towards many scenarios throughout the film suggest this is the case. When we look at the interviews of Charlton Heston and Marilyn Manson it is clear that Moore’s attitude changes quite severely and this is seen...
