Officially born independent in September 7, 1822, stands a country that is widely known as Brazil, which is home to the beautiful wild of the Amazon Rainforest. Having once been ruled by Portugal colonization, it is the only Latin American country who still holds true the culture and language of Portugal. Knowing that most rainforests are located close to the equator, and that the worlds biggest rainforest is in Brazil, it is not hard to find this country which is the worlds fifth largest country, located in Eastern South America being crossed by the equator. Even though it seems as if this country has been alive a long time, its government has barely started having a republic in 1889 which is their official type of government. Still one century later, in 1985, the power came to civilians and they turned to a democracy, this they still call a federal republic. Brazil is a country, which like all of the others, has fought its way up to be what they are today.
As of an estimate of this year, Brazil holds about 191,908,598 people in its 3,286,470 square mile area. In this country 53.7% of the people are white, which is more than the half. From the other less then half of the population, 38.5% of the people are considered mulatto, 6.2% are black, 0.9% are other as in Arab, Amerindian or Japanese and the other 0.7% are unspecified. A side up to the people of Brazil is that their life expectancy stands at an average of 72.24 years being 68.3 for males and 76.38 for female. As an estimate of 2004, an average of 88.6% of the people are literate. A down side of the population of Brazil though is that their infant mortality rate is averaged out at 27.62 out of every 1000 babies. An affect to this great rate is that lately, many people in Brazil are dying because of AIDS since as of an estimate of 2003 660,000 people have AIDS.
