Religious Utopias and Movements in the British Colonization of North America (New England)
In the 1500s bigotry between religious believes was prevalent. These clashes between faiths led to new ideals and therefore the creation of Religious Utopias emerged in North America along with Europe’s own Protestant Reformation. Religious groups with different ideas preached about salvation, which was the main concern to society at the time, the goal to go to heaven. In this journey to find a perfect union with God and attain grace Europeans established different Protestant groups that went against the Roman Catholic Church. These emergent groups, which sought for an ideal society, full of grace to ultimately attain Gods salvation, fled into North America to obtain religious freedom. Denominations from The Roman Catholic Church such as the Puritan also broke up into different religions and established into their own communities out of New England, thus giving birth to Protestant religious groups in North America.
To better understand the turmoil that led to the Protestant Reformation in Europe it is imperative to know that Europe intertwined state policy with religion, people didn’t know the main language in which masses were delivered (Latin), and the Roman Catholic Church became corrupt, therefore many Europeans didn’t agree with the environment set by the church and wanted for the church to reform back to their primitive state, leading to the Protestant Reformation in 1521.
At the same time that the Roman Empire was disintegrating the Catholic Church emerged in 325 A.D., 90% of the people transferred to Christian Faith.
