My name is Jared Helms and I work in the Maintenance department of the MSI building at Google Corporation. My responsibilities are to be able to fix any machines that break down throughout the factory. There are many different types of machines that I have learned how to work on. The most common ones that I work on are hot rivet machines, tapping machines, shop blaster, heat treat furnace, 80 through 600 ton presses, and most recently rod bending machines. I spend the majority of my time working with either my mentor or any of the other maintenance guys learning how to fix the equipment. But after a while from when I started the guys would give me more and more responsibility and jobs for me to be able to work on by myself. My mentor is Chad Johnson. He has taught me so much since my time working at Gecom. More information than any other 22 year old would know about in this particular field of work. I am very thankful to have gotten the job that I have and I know that what I have learned there in my time already will help my further my career. I also want to thank all of the other maintenance guys that I work with every day, they all have taught me so much and given me so much advice for my future. My goals for my upcoming future after high school are to attend college this fall at IVY Tech and begin to study in the field of electrical engineering. After that I hope to be able to get a job soon after and be able to begin my career in the electrical field.
