In business or any other organization, team work is critical. In this day and age it is not possible for one person to know and do everything. A group of committed individuals working together in a team always produce better results than an individual.

Consider for instance the President of the United States. Regardless of his commitment and energy levels, it is not possible for him alone to serve a nation. He needs a supporting cast, such as his cabinet, that he can go to and apportion work. For example, the Secretary of State represents the nation's foreign policy and works with other countries. The secretary of Defense control the military wing of our nation to keep us safe. The secretary of education ensures that schools and institutions are working and producing top class students. Although the President of the United States provides general guidelines and framework, it is his subordinates that get the work done.

In any organization, team work is the key to success. Although a team could have individuals with very different personalities and abilities, it is often the case that the collective effort of each team member leads to a successful completion of a project. For example, as an engineering major in college I worked on many team-based projects. The most successful teams were those that had a clear plan with specific responsibilities assigned to each individual. This structure is so important because it allows each person to focus on his or her individual component. The sheer volume of work that needed to be completed necessitated that work be apportioned to each team member. By having a clear cut goal, sticking to deadlines, and taking responsibility for our own work, we were able to get things done. On the other hand, I have also worked on projects where a strong individual attempts to dominate others and feels insecure assigning work to other team members.
