Entertainment in the 1930s

Have you ever thought about what entertainment was like in the 1930s compared to now? The 1930s have been referred to as the great depression; this is a nickname for the 1930s because of the major economic crises that happened during this time period. This sent millions of individuals into poverty. The 1930s was a time that entertainment was a major aspect in.
In the 30’s films got more and more advanced than they had been before. In the Great Depression Hollywood mastered sound and color all in one film. This was a major step in the film industry. It also got them that much closer to the future. In the 30s the film “Wizard of Oz” came out it was the first film that was a masterpiece of sound and color. The “Wizard of Oz” was a major progression in the 30s and played an important role in what films are like today.
Films in Hollywood in the 30s were a way to escape the real world for a little while. During the 30s a lot was going on and sometimes a regular person just needs to get away from it all. And films would be the way to do this in the 30s. Whether it was a musical or a film the general goal of it was to get the viewers mind off of the real world for a little while. People needed to get their minds off of things it as important to them.
Musicals and films weren’t all happy some of them actually drew awareness to what was happening outside the doors. Films and musicals couldn’t be all happy then everyone would think that everything was okay, when in reality it was not. So musicals and films drew attention to what was happening outside. Films and musicals opened the eyes of many to what needed to be done in the real world.
Entertainment was important in the 30’s for many reasons. Films mastered color and sound, plays took peoples minds off of the real world for a little while, and musicals told the people what needed to be done. How do you think the entertainment industry changed in the 30s?
