Cambodia Media environment during election 2008

 Cambodia is a country which uses the system of democracy to lead the country. In the system of democracy, we have to have the election campaign to choose a candidate to control the country. Since 1998, we had the election process that was arranged by UN. And in 2003, Cambodia could arrange the election process by oneself. During the election in 1998 and 2003, a lot of information was reported from media, specially, radio reported that there were a lot of problems happened during that time and the most problem is the media environment. So what happened with the Media environment during the election campaign in 2008? Is it better than before or not?

Media in Cambodia in 2008, we have many kinds of media such as: television, radio, newspaper and so on. The most important media in Cambodia are those three kinds of media.
During the election campaign in 2008, television TVK is a place that all political parties are going to advertise or speak up their ideology and the principle of their party when they win the election. The TVK provided the amounts of free airtime to all parties during the 30-day campaign period. Even TVK allow all opposition parties to advertise their principle, but the opposition parties still said that the television media is unbalance unfair and unequal. Television is one of many kinds of media that according to the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) reported that in 2007 Cambodian 37 percent use television to get information. In fact, there are seven Cambodian television broadcasters in 2008, one state channel and six private channel, most of them are have a closely relationship with the power party, the Cambodian People Party (CPP). So every news or information that they broadcasted, they always say something nice for the CPP and they also very careful about what they broadcasted because they afraid and worry about their relationship.
