DRAFT
Can there be anything as a “just war?”
In my opinion, wars occur due to various reasons. Some just others unjust. Although, if you ask me, I would tell you that no war can be justified. My paper will talk about various wars both from the past and on-going. To add to that it will also touch on the principles of a “just war.”
The most part of my paper will be talking about the realism versus the neo-conservatism perspective on “just war”. It will use past examples of famous realist Hans Morgenthau to argue that there can be no such thing as a “just war”. Even though realists believe that human beings are predisposed to conflict, and that states prioritize survival using a self-help dynamic.
A smaller part also talks about how a “just cause”/ reason for a war to come about, does not necessarily mean that the war is a “just war”. Religious wars although just cover a very small part of the paper I feel it is quite important to touch on it because if not curbed early it is bound to get out of hand.
This is because in some parts of the world we see people of the same religion turning against one another. For example; Muslims turn against each other and Buddhists against one another, Christians judging one another too.
Lastly, I come to a conclusion that my paper argues that there can be no such thing as a “just war”!
