PERSONAL STATEMENT – Umar Faruk
I am inquisitive, diligent, disciplined, have a great sense of responsibility, a team player, can work independently with little or no supervision, in possession of excellent oral and written English communication skills and committed to a lifetime of learning. I am also well rounded
with many other social and sporting interests to complement my academic pursuits. These, are
the qualities and attributes I have relied upon in all stages of my life that have ensured that I have
demonstrated academic excellence in all my endeavours and are the strengths that I intend to bring to this programme. I have achieved many academic successes throughout my schooling years from the basic level up
to the completion of my undergraduate studies a couple of which I would like to highlight. Most recently in December, 2012 I was adjudged the Overall Best Candidate as well as the Best in Pharmacy Practice out of the almost a hundred and fifty candidates who sat the Ghana Pharmacy Professional Qualifying Examination. Another evidence of my academic ability is my award of a
First Class Honours Degree in Pharmacy at the end of my undergraduate education. With regards to my work and professional life, I currently work as the only Pharmacist in a
Clinic in a rural area of Ghana, where I still apply myself to the highest of standards which has ensured in improved health outcomes for the people I serve. I also served as a Teaching
Assistant in the Pharmacology and Toxicology Department of the University of Ghana School of Pharmacy where my efforts in the supervision of the conduct of undergraduate laboratory practicals, organization of tutorials for students and assisting faculty members in their personal research works earned me a favourable recommendation from my preceptor.
Considering my current role in my work place and the plans I have for my future I believe the
