Case Study: Fetal Abnormality
The provided case study is about an immigrant family, Jessica and Marco, who are pregnant with their first child. They are currently living with their aunt, Maria to save money to be able to live independently. Upon arrival at the hospital, they learn their baby has permanent developmental problems. Dr. Wilson discusses options with the family, resulting in each family member to disagree on the outcome (GCU, 2015). This paper will discuss the different theories used by each individual in the situation, the influence of the theories, and a personal theory and influence in regards to this specific situation.
Theories used by Jessica, Marco, Maria, and Dr. Wilson
Jessica can fit into believing multiple theories. These include the theories based on human properties, based on sentience, and based on relationships. Marco is believed to also fit into believing multiple theories. These include the theories based on cognitive properties, moral agency, sentience, and relationships. Maria can fit into believing two of the theories, being, the theory based on human properties and relationships. Lastly, Dr. Wilson fits to believe the theory of relationships (GCU, 2015).
Influence of Theories
Jessica and Maria fit into the theory of human properties because of their conviction that all life is sacred. Marco fits into the theories of cognitive properties and moral agency because he states he will support Jessica with her decision. It could be thought that Marco believes individuals are a moral agent when they are able to be cognitively aware and when they are capable of making judgments of right or wrong. This could be concluded by Marco stating he will support Jessica if she chooses abortion. Because both Jessica and Marco are hesitant on the abortion decision, they could fit into the theory...
