Richard Woods vs. the Queen
The case I will research in this question is Richard Woods vs. the Queen. In this case Richard Woods was convicted before Osadebay J. and a jury of the murder of Pauline Johnson his niece, and attempted murder of Hervin Davis on 25th January, 1995.
The Prosecution based its case heavenly on the evidence that about 10:30 p.m. to 11:45p.m. in the night of 10th April, 1993 Richard Woods deliberately and intentionally drove his truck at high speed on to Pauline Johnson and Hervin Davis who were walking on the side of the Dump Road which led off Dunmore Street in Harbor Island. Hervin Davis testified that while he and Pauline Johnson were walking on the dump road towards the home of the deceased, Richard Woods drove up along-side in his truck and asked the deceased if she still wanted him to take her home. She declined his offer saying she had almost made her way home. Richard Woods unpleased with her incompliance responded “Well, okay, since you don’t want me to take you home, you wait, you will see what happen.” The appellant then drove off and soon thereafter his truck was seen coming around the corner towards them at great speed with its lights on. It was then on the legal side of the road.
As the truck was negotiating the corner had its lights shut off, and was driven from the legal side of the road straight towards Pauline Johnson, and Hervin Davis who was on the opposite side of the road. They were hit by the truck and injured. The evidence that was submitted by Hervin Davis was confirmed by a witness Jeron Roberts, a nephew of Pauline Johnson.
