According to dictionary.com, strict is defined as “Stern; severe; Austere”(Para 8). “My child isn’t ever going to lie to me. He is going to be so scared about getting in trouble that he’s not going to, ever.” My sister told me as we discussed how she was going to raise her son. Although, according to familyanatomy.com’s article “Lying Teens and Strict Parents” “In an environment where parents are unlikely to be strict, for each of the issues examined 40-50% of the youth said they’d tell their parents the truth about the situation”(Para 3). Many parents think that strict parenting is good; however, it has its negatives. Negatives from gomestic.com’s article “Over-protective parents Pose a Negative Effect for Children” and msnbc.msn.com’s article “Strict Parents tend to have overweight kids” include: the child might become really shy, the parents might limit the child’s activity and the child might become overweight.
Being strict might cause your child to become overly shy. According to gomestic.com’s article “Over-protective Parents Pose a Negative Effect for Children” “The main reason is that children of over-protective parents usually lack of self-confidence as they were never given a chance to cope with the world on their own or to interact or develop their communication skills”(Para 3). They don’t get a chance to grow their communication skills, so they don’t have a chance to talk to strangers or people that they don’t know. This makes them overly shy and not wanting to talk to people that they don’t know. Also they are overly shy because they lack basic trust in people. They become suspicious of people good intentions and affections. They are used to earning love by living up to their parents.
