Abstract

At present Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is used to measure a person’s ability to perform in the job sector. It is also used to indicate a person’s merit. But most of the time students resort to cramming up all the stuff and it helps them to manage good grades. This person may not work as expected in reality. On the other hand a person with moderate or low CGPA with creativity and strong willingness can perform better in real life. Individuals face high and low in his academic career. There are many factors that might hamper a student’s performance other than his own ability. Personal problems, family and social factors like friends, peers etc are some of the main reasons. Moreover the current education system emphasizes more on bookish knowledge rather than on practical knowledge. Thus my hypothesis is that CGPA does not, always, pictures the true ability of a person. I did a survey on 40 persons including students and employees from different institution and organization through questionnaire with 14 questions. Most of the answers in fact more than 70 % of them strongly supported my hypothesis meaning that there a large numbers of students and employees agree with me as well. In my secondary research, many experts have found out some of the major reasons that might hamper a student’s performance thus making my hypothesis a more valid one. Thus I would like to conclude that educational institutes should put more emphasis on practical knowledge as we are going to deal with those situations in our professional career.
