Changing the Game


With recent concern for player safety in the NFL, the league has now implemented many new rules protecting the players from injury. These rules are now impacting how the game of football is being played. In a way changing the game. Football from the beginning of time has always had the reputation of being a rough sport. Every play consists of violent collisions that occur between opposing teams. Some more ferocious than others. Football is a unique game in which contact and toughness is preched from the pop warner level to the pros. For the first time in history, people are beginning to question the safety of the game and its short and long term effects on its players. Growing up in a football household, I have had the opportunity to put on a football uniform from the pop warner to the collegate level. With many family members having experience and success playing the game, I have been surrounded by the game of football my whole life. Football has always been an interest of mine, leading me to write about this topic. I have experienced first hand the injuries that can result from playing this violent game. Over the last few years new research has been developed showing the affects of head injuries and concussions on the game of football. This has lead the NFL to take action in improving player safety by establishing new rules to help make the game safer. These new rules established have been controversial to say the least. Many current and ex players have voiced there opinions publicly. Some agree with the NFL and their concern for implementing player safety, ultimately resulting in new rule changes. While others disagree with the changes being made and believe theses changes have had a negative impact on the game since being established.
