A New Zealand parrot called a kea suddenly dies from eating chocolate. The kea is the world’s smartest birds, they often like to open garbage cans, break into cars, tents, or anything they can find food in. The kea ate 20 grams of dark chocolate outside a hotel kitchen. Like most animals chocolate is toxic, but harmles to humans. Scientists are studing the chemicals in chocolate and hoping to find away to get rid of pests. Studys show 240 grams of unsweetened dark chocolate could kill a 40 kilogram dog like for example a german shepard. Veterinary journals has a lot of stories of dogs, cats, and other species dropping dead after eating chocolate.
Cocoa was used by the Mayas and they used to sacrifice a dog and rub cocoa all over them. The mayas did this for the cocoa god. Cocoa beans are made of mostly caffine and its chemical relatives are theobromine and theophylline also called methlxanthines. The reason why a human doesn’t die from eating chocolate is because humans metabolizes theorbromine that is in methlxanthine and animals metabolize it slower. A human can actually die from eating 50 kilograms of choclolate though.
Coyote kill $44 million of livestock each year, and they also damage property, and kill people and pets. The bait that is being planned to kill the coyotes is methlxaines , a mix of theobromine and caffine, is being tested on coyotes.. Earl Campbell a scientist discovered that caffine spray killed things like frogs, and slugs. Cocoa contains 700 compounds. It is believed that cocoa can prevent stomach ulcers, and tooth decay. People should still brush their teeth cause of the sugar in chocolate can still rott your teeth. It can also help the cardiovascular system and lower blood pressure. The downside of chocolate for humans is weight gain and chocolate gives a human a short boost of energy. Animals should stay away from chocolate by all means. It is very fatal for animals. Humans should enjoy choclate but at reasonable rates.
