In Clockwork, readers may find interesting information about love of the parents towards their child and the fame of the clockmakers through times. Parents will do anything to keep their children safe with them and clockmakers will do everything to keep the fame. These actions seem obvious and normal but if we take a look closer, “anything and everything” can be harmful. And the reason is that both parents and clockmaker would look over all the reasons and forget to understand what do their children really want and for clock maker - the clockwork both parents and clockmaker show their passion of love towards what they love, in this case, child and clockwork. From the story, there are many points to show the ideas stated above.
First, Prince Otto who married Princess Mariposa and had a child but the baby was dead right after the delivery. So, Prince Otto said “ I will have an heir, come what may!” (p.52) Then he went to the house of the clockmaker, Dr.Karl and asked him to build a baby clockwork Prince. After that, Prince Otto took the Prince to the palace, put him in his mother’s arm , and named the baby - Prince Florian. Five years later, Prince Florian got sick. Prince Otto again wanted to save his child’s life by went to Dr.Kalmenius and asked for help. The clockmaker said that Prince Florian must have a heart like it stated on page 59 “ There is one thing,” said Dr.Kalmenius. “He is failing because he has no heart…that its owner is willing to part with. Besides—“ but Prince Otto left before he most important sentence on page 60 “ The heart that is given must also be kept.” After that, Prince Otto planned to ask the honest Baron Stelgratz to sacrifice his heart for Prince Florian. The plan was set up by the three of them would go hunting h in the forest and Prince Otto would make it as an aciident that the wolves attack Baron Stelgratz, but the plan was not complete, so Prince Otto demanded Dr. Kal to take his own heart out...
